Asociatia Romana de Educatie in Alergii needed far more than a brochure site. It had to teach families how to live with allergies, point them to allergy-safe pharmacies, restaurants and kindergartens across the country, gate professional resources behind membership, take donations, and run live charity art auctions. All of it in Romanian, all of it manageable by the association's own team.
The hard part was range. A single platform had to behave like a content hub, a searchable directory, a members area, a donation page, and a real-time auction house at once, without falling apart for the people running it.
We built AREA as a single custom WordPress theme on the Sage framework, with Blade templating and a Webpack build, so the codebase stayed clean as the feature set grew. Each part of the association's work, allergy guides, directories, events, member resources, donations, and auctions, got its own content type and its own templates, all editable by the team through Advanced Custom Fields.
The two demanding pieces, a members area with expiring access and a real-time auction, were built as custom systems rather than bolted-on plugins, so they behave exactly the way the association needs.
The platform came together in distinct systems: directories, members, auctions.
